Speech and Language Pathology
Wellington Regional Medical Center provides inpatient and outpatient adult speech, language, voice and swallowing rehabilitation as part of our comprehensive Physical Medicine Services Department.
Our knowledgeable speech therapists offer multiple forms of therapy dedicated to helping improve quality of life through innovation and excellence.
They do this by:

- Consulting professionals within an interdisciplinary team
- Educating the patient, their loved ones and caregivers
The Speech and Language Pathology staff works with all disciplines including: neurosciences, otolaryngology, radiology, oncology and general medicine for adults.

Services
Speech/Language Pathology Services provides a comprehensive range of evaluative, preventive and rehabilitative services to those with communicative cognitive and swallowing disorders.
Among the services provided are evaluation, treatment and management of patients with disorders of speech, voice, language, cognition, memory or swallowing.
The staff develops and implements individualized treatment plans that focuses on re-establishing functional and reliable communication. Treatment goals may also address specific communicative-cognitive deficits through a variety of facilitatory and compensatory treatment techniques. Patients who have swallowing disorders receive a comprehensive evaluation, which may include a videofluoroscopic swallowing study to achieve safe swallowing. Swallowing treatment, including VitalStim® and diet modification, follow as needed. Patients with voice problems receive a complete evaluation which may include a videostroboscopic evaluation if prescribed by their physician.

Individuals with acquired difficulty in speech, language, memory, cognition and swallowing, secondary to:
- Stroke (CVA)
- Brain tumor
- Neurological/post-neurological condition
- Neuromuscular disease
- Head and neck surgery or radiation
- Trauma
Disorders Treated Include:
- Aphasia
- Apraxia
- Dysarthria
- Dysphagia
- Voice disorders
- Cognitive disorders
- Dysfluency (stuttering)
